A useful thing to know
Will my photo be stretched?
The default keeps the original proportions. Exact canvas mode fits the whole image inside your chosen dimensions, using padding instead of distortion.
How we handle your dataResize Image guide
Choose dimensions that fit the job
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of an image. It is different from compression: a photo can keep the same width and height while becoming smaller through compression, or it can be resized to fewer pixels and often become smaller as a result. Use Resize Image when a website, form, social platform or document asks for a particular width and height.
Keeping the aspect ratio helps prevent faces, logos and text from looking stretched. If the requested dimensions have a different shape from the original image, preserving the ratio may leave one dimension different from the exact target. In that case, crop the image first or use a workflow designed for the required photo shape.
Upscaling a small image to much larger dimensions does not create real detail. It can make the file bigger while the picture still looks soft. For best results, start with the clearest original available and resize downward when possible.
Practical checklist
Practical resizing tips
- Use exact pixels when a portal specifies them.
- Keep aspect ratio on unless you intentionally need a different shape.
- Choose the required output format rather than the smallest format by default.
- Check text and faces after resizing, especially after a large reduction.
Common questions
Does resizing reduce file size? Often, but not always; format and compression also matter. Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height. Enlarging cannot restore missing detail. Supported images are processed in your browser.
